Mike Alfieri is a cutting edge musician with a compelling command and understanding of the drums. He has experienced a high level of percussion performance in all facets of contemporary music. Mike has had the privilege of working with a variety of inspiring musicians including: Pete Malinverni, John Abercrombie, Dan Weiss, Dom Famularo, Tom Rainey, Dominic Duval (Cecil Taylor), Skip Scott (Warne Marsh/Lennie Tristano), Rich Thompson (Eastman School of Music) and Richie Morales. Mike has toured and performed all across the US, Canada, and in Mexico. He has performed with The Northern Symphonic Winds, Atlantic Wind Symphony, and The Orchestra of Northern New York. He currently collaborates with many different projects including the co-led avant jazz trio Kinsmen and Strangers, indie band Stone Byron, and songwriter Mark Dylan.
An accomplished educator: Mike received an B.M. in Music Education from the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam where he studied with Jim Petercsak and Fabrice Marandola. He received a M.M. in Jazz Studies from the Conservatory of Music at SUNY Purchase studying privately with John Riley. Mike is currently the Director of Instrumental Music at Mount Saint Joseph High School in Baltimore, Maryland.
